Slano Travel Guide
Slano, a lovely Adriatic village in the Dubrovnik Riviera of Croatia, is located in a calm picturesque bay wide enough to provide an amazing view of the open sea. The green rural countryside on the verge of the seashore offers its visitors a delightful retreat. The regular bus lines from Dubrovnik which is about 40 km away will ensure a short and pleasant Slano travel.
The archaeological findings on the hills surrounding the village clearly prove the existence of a prehistoric settlement and the later Illyrian and Roman presence. At the very end of the 14th century Slano was annexed to the Republic of Ragusa and became one of the favourite places for noblemen to build their seaside manors.
Tourist attractions. The best preserved summer residence of the distinguished Ohmucevic local family never fails to attract tourists enjoying their holidays in Slano as well as the Vice-Rector's Palace nearby. The parish church of St Blaise and the Franciscan church of St Jerome housing the 15 hundred years old sarcophagus are the fine examples of Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The Banja cove has a 13th century church of St Peter.
Festivals and cultural events. You can enrich your Slano travel by partaking in the summer folk festivities in the open air and regular music evenings organized in Admiral Grand Hotel, while its nightclub invites young people to dance till early in the morning.
Restaurants. Slano has a few restaurants and bars with good homemade food. Your Slano holidays can benefit from visiting beachfront Mirakul cafe. Excellent catering facilities can be found at the two large hotels, Admiral and Osmine with a buffet and a la carte restaurant, bar, pizzeria, tavern and pastry shop.

Slano beaches are both sandy and pebble with lush greenery in the background and every chance for relaxation and refreshment.

Thanks to the naturally protected bay Slano has a harbour for sailboats and yachts that can be rented in the Busola sailing club. Snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, surfing, spearfishing are also popular along with cycling and hiking. The hotels have well-equipped sports grounds and courts for tennis and bowling.
