Viganj Travel Guide

Viganj is situated in a charming blossoming bay sheltered by the southern Peljesac mountains. The turquoise Adriatic Sea and the captivating surroundings ensure delightful Viganj holidays. The best ways to reach the village are an 8 km bus drive from Orebic or a 120 km transfer from the Dubrovnik airport.

The history of Viganj goes back to the prehistoric and Hellenistic times. The Dubrovnik Republic's influence on its nautical tradition was the strongest in the 18th and 19th centuries when its merchant ships ploughed the seas worldwide.

Tourist attractions. A Viganj travel can be used to learn about the unique Greek and Illyrian ceramics and early Neolithic artifacts preserved in a cave above the village. The great attractions for one's Viganj travel are the 17th century Dominican monastery and the church of Our Lady of Roses with the Virgin Mary's wooden statue.

Festivals and cultural events. The July Viganj holidays are perfect for joining the folk festival shows with a free offer of grilled fish and wine. Viganj has its disco club and beach bars to hold summer parties.

Beaches. No Viganj travel can be imagined without a visit to the spacious pebble beach extending along the bay. Some smaller gravel beaches favoured by nudists are found in the adjacent solitary coves.

Restaurants. The local Bistro Ponta restaurant and the Karmela cafe bar serve healthy food and famous Peljesac wines.

Active vacations. Viganj counts among the best world centres of windsurfing and kitesurfing and hosts Croatia's Windsurfing Championship every July. There are also sailing and scuba diving schools. The mountain hiking and biking routes across St Elijah Mount as well as its paragliding opportunities are other popular ways to spend one's holidays in Viganj.
