Pasman Island Travel Guide

The Pasman Island located in the Zadar archipelago certainly has its fair share of delights. Pasman holidays will be remembered for the cleanest waters in the Adriatic, rich flora and fauna, historic churches, great cultural and sport offer.

The island can be reached without any difficulties. After getting to Croatia, take a bus to either Biograd or Zadar. Then take a ferry from Biograd to Tkon, Pasman or from Zadar to Preko, Ugljan, connected to Pasman Island through a bridge.

Illyrian hill-fort and Roman artefacts testify that the island has been settled since the prehistoric times. The medieval name of the island, Postimana, was first documented by Constantine Porfirogenet's writing in 990.The island was ruled by the Venetians, the French and then the Austrians. In 1918, Pasman was finally recognized as the territory of Croatia.

Tourist attractions. Some of the best attractions include the Franciscan Monastery of St. Duje featuring a great mural of Madonna, the Benedictine Monastery of St. Kuzma with a large mural of the crucifixion (14c.), the church St. Luke in Zdrelac. Here you will also see the ruins of ancient settlements, rustic manor houses, mosaics, a statue of St. Mihovil in Nevidane (12th c.).

Festivals and entertainment. You will not get bored during your Pasman travel since many happenings take place on the island. Cultural societies from the entire Croatia organize various events such as singing contests, festivals, regatta, etc. The fishermen's festivals are held up to couple of times a week. 13th of June is the day of St. Pilgrimage to St. Anthony of Padova.

Island Pasman during the summer season offers a multitude of possibilities for good time and fun. Along the coast of the island, you will find many bars that also offer entertainment and to do early morning. Disco clubs will still be found on the island of Ugljan, which is associated with Pasman bridge.

Restaurants. Those with a great appetite can indulge themselves in the true enjoyment of local food during their Pasman holidays. One of the best restaurants is Lanterna, which will surprise you by its courteous staff and a wide choice of dishes. The tight budget travellers are well advised to eat out in the restaurant Dolac in Banj.

Beaches. Amazing sandy beaches that make Pasman travel so popular can be found in Zdrelac, Barotul and Dobropoljana. In Zdrelac pass are located many beautiful sandy beaches that make this place attractive tourist destination. Dobropoljana is one of the most popular island resort located below the peak of its greatest peak Bokalj also has a sandy beach, which is located next to a settlement. Barotul - one of the most quiet villages on the island, and it will fascinate you with host hospitality and beautiful sandy beaches.

Active vacations. Pasman area is a paradise for people who like water sports, sailing and diving. Football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, cycling are also included in the sport offer of the island. Canoe and pedal boats can be rented on many beaches.
