Petrcane Travel Guide

Petrcane, a village in Croatia with a population of about 600, is nestled in the picturesque Zadar Channel on the Petrcane Cove. This village has all the facilities necessary for spending unforgettable time by the sea. If you are coming from Split, you should take the 37 bus to Trogir, and then go to Zadar, which is the closest large city to Petrcane (12 km). If you are coming from Zadar airport (in Zemunik), note that there are no direct transport connections to Petrcane, so you have to go to Zadar first and then travel to Petrcane by a local buses.

According to the legend, Petrcane was founded in the 12th century by two brothers, Petar and Cane. Throughout the history the inhabitants of this village sustained their living mainly by fishing and growing grapevines and olives. In the Middle Ages Petrcane belonged to the Zadar monasteries of St. Krsevan and Plato. After the Civil war, which hit Croatia in 1991, Petrcane has become a famous tourist resort.

Tourist attractions. Although there are not many sightseeing spots in Petrcane itself, it is close to the towns of Croatia with astonishing historical and cultural heritage. The holidays in Petrcane are an excellent opportunity to visit Zadar and admire its fortification, listen to the Sea Organ, and visit the Roman forum, the Church of Saint Donat, and Saint Anastasia's Cathedral. The ancient town of Nin with its pre-romanesque architecture is only 8 km away from Petrcane. If you are a cheese gourmand, go to the island Pag and taste delicious Pager cheese. You would also be charmed by the natural beauty of the nearby National Parks (Paklenica, Kornati, Plitvice Lakes, Krka Falls).

Festivals and cultural events. Petrcane is an unparalleled dance music destination for the rebels against large scale festivals. Restaurants. Your Petrcane travel will also be remembered for a savory local cuisine. There are enough places for eating out in Petrcane, but you can hardly find something too exclusive there. Beaches. When it comes to vacationing in Croatia, Petrcane is well known for its lovely beaches, with Pinija Beach being the most attractive of them. The Nela Beach Club is especially popular among young people. Those who prefer privacy during their Petrcane holidays should go to the Punta Skala. Close to Punta Skala there is a natural coast called Visevica, which is reserved for nudists.
