Jezera Travel Guide

Jezera is a small town on the Murter Island with a population about 1000. Jezera travel is getting more and more popular, which is partially due to the vicinity of very attractive tourist destinations of Croatia such as Kornati, Krka, Sibenik, etc.

The town was named after the small lakes that appear in the karst valleys as a result of heavy rainfalls in autumn and winter months. As soon as the spring comes, these lakes dry out. The first mention of Jezera dates back to 1298. However, the town is older because two graves of Liburnians were found near the place.

Tourist attractions. For a taste of history, don't forget to visit Pudarica, a pile of stones of a weird spiral form that were supposedly used by the Illirians for sending some special messages to the ships from it and as an observation place. The sightseeing list of any Jezera travel guide also includes the parish church of Gospa od Zdravlja, the churches of St. Roko u Polju, and the church of St. Nikola.

Festivals and cultural events. If blues, jazz, and reggae is your thing, don't miss the Sime Turcinov Memorial music festival which is held in August. If you enjoy fishing, be sure to be present at the event called Fishermen's night held in the first Saturday of August and Big Game Fishing in September.

Restaurants. As for the restaurants, Jezera is overflowing with them. Those with a ravishing appetite for Dalmatian seafood would be well advised to head for Leut, Carevi dvori, Kod ribara. Those who like meat specialties from both Mediterranean and local cuisine should go to Kandela, located in the center of the town.

Beaches. Jezera is blessed with wonderful beaches just like other seaside resorts of Croatia. It takes only 5 min of pleasant walk from the center of the town to the main local beach, where all the necessary facilities are at the disposal of the visitors. A pebbled beach Lovisca with a cafe-bar, showers and a concrete terrace for sunbathing is also popular. Those who prefer enjoying the beauty of nature in silence during their Jezera holidays should go to a wild beach which can be found at the other site of the bay.

Active vacations. The town's sport and recreative offer can satisfy anyone during their Jezera holidays. For those who need more thrilling enjoyment, football field, tennis court, diving center, various water sports are available.
