Zivogosce Travel Guide
Makarska Riviera, Croatia, has many seaside resorts which all can be an excellent choice for romantic travellers, with Zivogosce being one of them. Situated 20 km south of Makarska, this small village with a population about 500 is divided into three smaller parts: Porat, Mala Duba and Blato.

Getting to Zivogosce is easy, especially by car or bus from Split.
The area was settled in Illyrian and Roman times. Zivogosce first appeared in official documentation in the middle of the 13th century.
Tourist attractions. Make a step into the past during your Zivogosce holidays and visit Illyrian mounds on top of the hill Suzina along with the clusters of old stone houses and a stone tower at the foot of a nearby hill. However, the famous Licinianus epigram (474 BC), carved into a rock above the Pokrivenice spring, is the number one attraction. If you go to the eastern side of the village, you will see a Franciscan monastery (18c.), which was destroyed during the French occupation and restored in the 20th c. The monastery features the Baroque altar and the library with a rich collection of books and archives.
Festivals and cultural events. As for the lifestyle of the village, it is far from being vibrant and extreme. Thus, if you don't expand your Zivogosce travel, you may get bored without pulsing nightlife and various festivities. Such nearby places of Croatia as Makarska (20 km), Split (80 km), Dubrovnik (120 km), and such islands as Hvar, Brac and Korcula will completely satisfy your need in entertainment.
Restaurants. There are not many restaurants waiting for you in Zivogosce. However, you can find a lot of places for eating out in the vicinity. The best cuisine of Croatia as well as international dishes are offered in Palaca Paladini (Petra Hektorovica), a nice restaurant situated an enjoyable ferry trip away on the island Hvar.
Beaches. Those who decided on Zivogosce travel for romantic reasons are recommended to have a long sunset walk and leave 6 km of footprints on Gradac Beach (20km away). Those who have kids should better choose the Mala Duba beach, which is an ideal playground. The nudists will be happy to visit some marvelous beaches with clothing optional policy.
Active vacations. Active travelers will not be disappointed by the sport offer of the village. If you are truly fit, try parasailing or jet skiing, mountaineering or trekking and make the most of your Zivogosce holidays.
