Beaches in Split
Split's sunny Adriatic coast and the clear blue sea are the most irresistible appeals for tourists who can find their pleasure in practicing various outdoor sports and relaxing on the beautiful Split beaches that stretch on either side of the historic city.

The most famous city beach is located at a walking distance from the centre in the eastern sandy Bacvice bay where the sea is shallow and ideal for family holidays. The kids can amuse themselves on the nearby playgrounds fitted up with bouncy castles, trampolines, electric cars and slides while the adults enjoy a game of picigin. This indigenous game that is played in ankle-deep water with a tennis-like ball makes Bacvice the most famous among the beaches in Split.
In the neighbouring cove you can find the Ovcice beach which is composed of fine gravel like all the rest of the beaches in Split. The still farther pebble coves are known as the Znjan beach which has a children's park, too.
The western collection of Split beaches is grouped around the green slopes of the Marjan hill. The most splendid Marjan beach occupies the pebbly and rocky coast of the northern Bene bay. The Bene beach provides a good deal of additional content and is beautifully fringed by pine trees that hide outdoor bars and give refreshing shade. The local sports facilities include tennis courts, a futsal field, trails for horseback riding. The southern Marjan coast that is closer to the old city is home to three more shingle Split beaches; they are Jesinac, Kastelet, Kasjuni.

The southern Marjan rocks are popular with free climbers and mountaineers who crowd this place in April to compete for a cup. The wooded slopes are filled with excellent walking and cycling tracks; bicycles can be rented right at the park entrance. The Marjan tennis courts are available by the hour while the greatest place for training courses is a summer tennis camp near Stobrec a few kilometres far from Split. Football is among other popular Split sports, with a large stadium called Poljud located next to the Marjan park. Shooting grounds and the facilities for volleyball, basketball, handball, paintball are available around the city.
Keen water sports lovers will find ideal conditions for sailing. Along with the main well-equipped ACI Marina, some of Split's sailing clubs like Zenta or Spinut have their own smaller marinas. Numerous charter companies provide tourists with bareboat or crewed sailboats, motorboats and catamarans. The Split diving centres (Manta, Sustipan, Akvatorij) will introduce you to the colourful marine life and impressive underwater formations. Sea kayaks, beach canoes, banana boats, water skis are also great for sea adventures.
The mountain river Cetina that flows through the surrounding hills is a wonderful place for the most thrilling Split sports, such as canyoning, rafting, rock climbing.
